Welcome to the Lake District Osprey Project

For the third time in 150 years, the wild Ospreys overlooking Bassenthwaite have produced chicks . Two chicks hatched during the week of 9th June but by the following week only one chick was to be seen being fed in the nest.

The Dodd view point is open as is the live nest video link at Whinlatter Visitor Centre.

Update 31 July 2003- The chick has taken its first flight. The chick's maiden flight took place just before midday on Thursday 31 July and was watched by delighted visitors at the Osprey Viewpoint at Dodd Wood, near Keswick.
The diary has been updated to 24th July 2003.

Well done to Erica Pennington who entered the guess the flight date competition. She has won a large collection of goodies including an osprey T-shirt, a bird spotters guide and a small radio.
